Troubleshooting and Repair — $300 two-hour minimum

Breakers that trip repeatedly, outlets that stop working, flickering lights and burning smells all have a cause. We trace it rather than guess at it. The two-hour minimum includes a panel safety inspection, which takes about 30 minutes, with the remaining 90 minutes for the troubleshooting and repair. Parts and material are additional.

Load Assessment — $150

Before you add an EV charger, a spa, an electric range or any other large load, we run a load calculation and assess the site to confirm your existing panel can carry it. That load calculation is also required for your building permit, so it is not a throwaway step.

Electrical Panel Upgrades

A main panel replacement, where the meter and service stay put, runs $3,000 to $4,000. A meter main load center upgrade runs $4,000 to $9,000 — that range is wide because AFCI and GFCI breakers cost $150 to $250 each, and a panel built out with combination breakers throughout costs considerably more than one without. A sub panel replacement runs $1,000 to $5,000. Every panel we work on leaves with every breaker correctly labeled, and we install whole-home surge protection at the panel.

EV Charger Installation

We install Level 2 chargers at homes and businesses, including Tesla Wall Connectors, Emporia, ChargePoint and other units. Replacing an existing charger runs $1,000 to $2,000. A new installation including the building permit runs $1,500 to $5,000 depending on the length of the wire run. If your panel is near capacity you may not need an upgrade — load management can often avoid one.

Knob and Tube and Aluminum Wiring

We specialise in removing knob and tube wiring and replacing it with modern wiring to current code. We also remediate aluminum branch wiring, common in mobile homes and in homes built in the late 1960s and 1970s, using proper splice connectors at every device and adding sub panels that accept combination AFCI/GFCI breakers.

Whole House Rewiring

A full rewire on a 1,000 square foot San Luis Obispo home runs about $25,000, excluding demolition and repair of siding.

Standby Generator Design and Installation

We design and install standby generator systems, including the transfer switch, the generator connection and the panel work required to carry the circuits you want backed up. A whole-house installation including permits, plans, engineering and gas runs about $15,000. Deciding which circuits stay live during an outage drives both the generator size and the cost, so we work that out with you before quoting.

Hot Tub, Spa and HVAC Circuits

Hot tub and spa circuits, spa panels and HVAC circuits. These start with a $150 load assessment to confirm the existing panel can carry the load.

Home and Business Automation

Lighting control, switching and automation for homes and commercial spaces.

ADUs, Additions and Kitchen Rewires

Additions and permitted ADUs usually require a load calculation and often a service upgrade. We handle the panel work, the sub panel, the permit and the inspection. We also do kitchen rewires as part of remodels.

Commercial and Industrial

Restaurant equipment circuits and troubleshooting, facility maintenance and repair, tenant improvements, service upgrades, lighting retrofits, three-phase power, motor controls and control wiring. We schedule around your operating hours.

Lighting, Fans and Outlets

Fixture replacement, recessed and under-cabinet lighting, ceiling fan installation including new bracing where needed, outdoor and landscape lighting, and adding or relocating outlets and switches.

Grounding and Code Corrections

Current code requires two ground rods along with a cold water bond and a gas bond. On older Central Coast homes we rarely find all three present. Grounding is what gives fault current a path back to the source so a breaker can do its job, so an improperly grounded service is a safety issue regardless of how long it has been that way. We correct grounding and bonding as part of every panel and service upgrade, and we can assess an existing service on its own.

What does an electrician charge to come out?

Troubleshooting and repair is a $300 two-hour minimum. That includes a panel safety inspection, about 30 minutes, plus 90 minutes of troubleshooting and repair. Parts and material are additional.

Do you give flat rate or hourly pricing?

Flat rate. You get the full price in writing before any work begins, including parts, labor and cleanup. If the job takes longer than estimated, that is our cost, not yours.

Are there trip charges or mileage charges?

No. There are no trip or mileage charges anywhere in our service area, including North County.

Do you offer emergency or after-hours service?

We schedule weekend and evening work by appointment. Our phone line is staffed Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, so the fastest way to arrange after-hours work is to book online or call during business hours.

What should I do if my breaker keeps tripping?

A breaker that trips repeatedly is doing its job — it is signalling an overload or a fault on that circuit. Do not replace it with a larger breaker. Unplug what you can from the circuit and have an electrician trace the cause.

Do you offer financing?

Yes, through Wisetack on larger projects. Ask during your estimate.
