Our Electrical Pricing

Most electricians will not give you a number until they are standing in your driveway. We publish ours. The ranges below are typical for San Luis Obispo County and northern Santa Barbara County. Every job is quoted as a flat price in writing before work begins. There are no trip or mileage charges anywhere in our service area. We are a licensed C-10 electrical contractor, license #973698, bonded and insured.

Service
Price
What it includes
Load assessment
$150
Load calculation and site assessment before adding an EV charger, spa, electric range or other large load. Confirms your panel can carry it. The load calculation is also required for your building permit.

$300 (two-hour minimum)
Includes a panel safety inspection, about 30 minutes, plus 90 minutes of troubleshooting and repair. Parts and material not included.

$3,000 – $4,000
Replaces the panel. The meter and the service stay where they are.
Load-managing EV charger installation
$3,300 – $5,300
Charger about $1,300 including any required current transformers. Install with permit, material and labor $2,000 to $4,000. Often avoids a panel upgrade.

$1,000 – $5,000
Depends on size and location.
Meter main load center upgrade

Panel about $4,500. Install with additional breakers and labor $5,000 to $6,000. Circuit-level monitoring and control from an app.

$1,000 – $2,000
Replacing an existing charger.
Underground service upgrade, 100A to 200A
$10,000 – $30,000
Includes the panel change. Depends on conduit viability, transformer upgrades, PG&E wire charges and what sits over the existing run.
Exploratory conduit investigation
About $4,500

Standby generator, whole house
About $15,000
Includes permits, plans, engineering and gas.
Whole house rewire
About $25,000
Based on a 1,000 square foot San Luis Obispo home. Excludes demolition and repair of siding.

Start With a Load Assessment

If you are adding an EV charger, a spa, an electric range or any other large load, the first step is a $150 load assessment. We run the load calculation on your existing service and tell you what it can carry. That single step often determines whether you need a $4,000 job or a $20,000 one, and the calculation is required for your building permit either way.

How much does an electrical panel upgrade cost?

It depends which job you need. A sub panel replacement runs $1,000 to $5,000. A main panel replacement, where the meter and service stay put, runs $3,000 to $4,000. A meter main load center upgrade runs $4,000 to $9,000. An underground service upgrade from 100 amp to 200 amp runs $10,000 to $30,000.

Why is the meter main range so wide?

AFCI and GFCI breakers cost $150 to $250 each, and current code requires them on far more circuits than older code did. A panel built out with combination breakers throughout costs considerably more than one without.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, check and credit card. We also offer financing through Wisetack.

How much does EV charger installation cost?

Replacing an existing charger runs $1,000 to $2,000. A new installation including the building permit runs $1,500 to $5,000 depending on the length of the wire run from the panel.
